Te Ūpoko o Te Ika | Naming Places

Years 3–8

Te Ūpoko o Te Ika | Naming Places invites ākonga to strengthen connections with their capital city and the Wellington region. The programme enriches understandings of how iwi Māori have settled, storied, shaped, and been shaped by the whenua and moana. Through exploring the naming and renaming of places in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, ākonga engage with ideas about colonisation. Adaptable for different age groups, and suitable for local schools and those coming to Wellington for a capital city experience.

Duration: 1 hour 45 minutes.

Cost: This visit is $6 per student (adults free).
