Getting Here
Travelling by cable car
- Wellington Cable Car departs from Cable Car Lane, 280 Lambton Quay. The cable car can be accessed by wheelchairs and with guide-dogs. For more on cable car fares and accessibility, visit the Wellington Cable Car website.
- Ride the cable car to last stop at the Kelburn Terminal. Cable Car Museum is situated adjacent to the terminal.
Travelling by bus
- The nearest public bus stop is on Upland Road opposite Glasgow Street. Find bus route information here.
Travelling by car/Mobility parking
- Wilsons Skyline car park at 1 Upland Road, Kelburn is the closest public carpark. The carpark provides paid carparking for all with limited spaces for drivers with mobility parking permits.
- Wheel chair users need to use the carpark ramp entrance to exit the carpark area.
- The museum is within a short distance of an unsheltered drop off/pick up zone.
- There are no dedicated mobility parking spaces for the museum.
Companion/Support Person Ticketing
Companions/support people can obtain complimentary tickets to paid exhibitions, events, theatre performances and programmes they are attending with a ticket holder.
Please get in touch with us by email (cablecar@experiencewellington.org.nz) or by phone (04 475 3578) once you have processed your ticket to arrange the complimentary companion/support person ticket.

Cable Car Museum strives to provide a safe space for all, regardless of gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, physical ability, appearance, neurodiversity, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, nationality, race, age, or religion.
Harassment and harmful behaviours towards anyone at our sites including our staff, other visitors, artists, or contractors will not be tolerated. Perpetrators of such behaviour will be asked to leave immediately.
Harassment and harmful behaviour include but is not limited to:
- Racist, sexist, classist, transphobic, homophobic, ableist, religiously bigoted comments.
- Intimidating and bullying behaviour.
- Failure to respect other’s boundaries.
- Inappropriate sexualised behaviour or advances.
