Covid Colab originated when Wellington Museum’s Programmes Developer, Benjamin James, was inspired to fill the quiet of the nation-wide lockdown with an ambitiously collaborative album.
During Alert Levels 4 and 3, Benjamin reached out to Pōneke-based musicians with simple guidelines to start the musical chain of events. They each created a track which was then passed on to different musicians tasked with developing it further. Each song evolved until every track featured five artists. 37 musicians contributed to the album in total, including members from iconic bands such Orchestra of Spheres, Dawn Diver, Trinity Roots, The Phoenix Foundation, Motte, and French for Rabbits to name a few. The results boast a gender-balanced, seven-track LP teeming with local talent.
Funded by Wellington Museum, Covid Colab is also available for purchase in store at Wellington Museum and at your favourite Wellington music store and venues.
