Gripmen Rules Dogs Magnet
The Gripmen Rules Dogs magnet makes the perfect souvenir for anyone who has enjoyed a ride up Cable Car. The magnet features the entertaining Cable Car rules of the past. Dogs may be man’s best friend, but in 1930’s Wellington their presence was not welcome on the Cable Car.
In 1934, Gripmen received a notebook responsible for operating the grip cars that climbed the hills to Kelburn. The book had to be kept on them at all times because it provided instructions of their job. these included from dealing with a breakdown, to coping with passengers. Many of the rules can sound ridiculous to a modern mind including one that dictates “Dogs and live poultry are not allowed in or on the cars, unless permission has been obtained from the manager.” This rule is one of the more ridiculous because, after being told you are not allowed dogs or chickens, one must mischievously ask “what about my pet cow?”
Take home part of the history of Wellington’s most-loved pubic transport system and brighten your fridge with this magnet forbidding Fido and fouls. Featuring a plastic-laminate cover, it wipes down easily making it a durable addition to even the busiest kitchen. The magnet also has a large magnetic pad for secure display.
