Rāpare Sessions: An online NZ Music Month Festival

Throughout NZ Music Month, we had local musicians performing in iconic Wellington spaces each Thursday night. Check out their performances below.

Wellington singer/songwriter Jeivenchy kicked off the online festival with some keyboard jams from Wellington Museum’s von Kohorn Boardroom.

Jeivenchy released dance-pop album ‘Fatal Attraction’ in March 2022. Expect his sleek snappy choruses to live in your head rent-free.

King Homeboy is New Zealand’s six-time beatboxing champion and has represented Aotearoa in competitions all over the world. He holds the record for the world’s longest individual beatboxing marathon at an astounding 34 hours!

Watch his unique performance streamed live from Nairn Street Cottage, one of the oldest homes in the city.

Watch and listen two rhythmic maestros tinker around in the iconic Cable Car Museum.

Drummer and composer Riki Gooch boasts an impressive creative career and is a founding member of Trinity Roots.

Isaac Smith is a multi-instrumentalist wizard. After spending several years in Columbo and Sri Lanka, Isaac is currently based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara. Isaac has a strong commitment to improvisation as a vehicle in the pursuit of awareness and balance.

Heleyni & Marika Pratley closed the Rāpare Sessions in the green-lit corridor of Space Place.

Last year the sisters took Pyramid Club’s Creative Sound Residency at Thomas King Observatory.

Heleyni is a Poneke performance artist, her genre bending songwriting fuses elements of indie rock and electronic art pop with distorted guitar riffs and catchy melodies. Marika Pratley (Class War on the Dance Floor, Moody V and The Menstal Cycle) blends psychedelic beats to create unique disco punk sound.
