June 15, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Maramataka

Ever wondered what would be the best time to grow plants and food? The answer might be in the stars.

Matariki is strongly associated with the celebration of harvest, gifting food, and planning or preparing the ground for the new year’s crops. Learn how Maramataka, the traditional Māori lunar calendar, relates to gardening.

The function of the Māori lunar calendar was to regulate planting and harvesting, as well as fishing and hunting.

We will take you through the historic and cultural aspects of Maramataka. You may even get a few good gardening tips along the way.

Dont forget to pickup your Nairn Street Preservation Society Tote Bag while you’re there!
