Wellington company t Leaf T have done their own take on this popular Indian classic, Chai. It’s a spicy black tea with the tastes of cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, ginger and just a hint of pepper. Chai is the perfect tea that’s enough to warm your bones after that cold Wellington southerly.
Chai (pronounced as a single syllable and rhymes with ‘pie’) is the word for tea in many parts of the world. A centuries old beverage that has played an important role in many cultures, it produces a warming, soothing effect, and acts as a natural digestive aid. Add some milk and a touch of honey, and you have the prefect after dinner beverage.
Blended across the harbour in Petone, John and Amanda van Gorp of t Leaf Tea have a passion for creating fragrant and uniquely New Zealand teas, as well as the well-loved classics. Chai tea is a perfect spicy and warming brew, ready to become a favourite for the whole family.
Brewing: Pre-heat a cup or teapot. Use 1 tsp per cup or 1 rounded tsp per person for a teapot. Pour freshly boiled water over the leaves and infuse for 3-5 minutes. Add milk or sweetener as desired.
