Featuring works by New Zealand composers. 29 June
It’s been 250 years since the first encounters between Māori and Europeans in Aotearoa. For this year’s Matariki performances, Horomona Horo and NZTrio explore this history by presenting a musical dialogue between two cultures. New work by New Zealand composers: Dame Gillian Karawe Whitehead, Victoria Kelly, Martin Lodge, Richard Nunns, Jeremy Mayall, and Gareth Farr brings together a distinctive combination of taonga pūoro and piano trio to contemplate and invite discussion on how those first encounters have shaped our world – in the past, today, and in the years to come.
This concert is presented in association with Chamber Music New Zealand.
