New Zealand jazz at its original best. 7 May
One of the most exciting and unexpected developments in New Zealand jazz in recent times has been the arrival of The Troubles.
They are led by John Rae, a celebrated drummer hailing from Edinburgh.
During a long residency in New Zealand’s capital city of Wellington, The Troubles developed and honed their brand of meticulously composed music. From the coarse to the sublime, the emotive to the absurd, their music is inventive, passionate, honest and wholly life affirming.
The Troubles and their distinct sound are giving pleasure to audiences around the world, with highlights including critically acclaimed, sold-out performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festivals in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
