Colonial Cottage Museum

Unfortunately the Colonial Cottage Museum is temporarily closed while the brick chimney undergoes earthquake strengthening. The garden remains open to the public however the cottage building itself will be closed until early July. We look forward to seeing you then.

Step back in time into 1850s Wellington and the life of the Wallis Family. The house and garden appear just as they would have when the family lived there.

Inquiry based programmes at the cottage provide a host of learning opportunities relating to Social Studies, History, Technology, Health, Arts, and English. Discover the 'Then and Now' of domesticity and the changing role of children and women.

Education programmes are tailored to meet the learning needs of your students, with pre and post visit resources available.

Cost: $4.00 per student (no charge for teachers and adults)
Education visits available Tuesday to Thursday.
