We welcome donations of items that relate to Wellington history. While we gratefully accept any donations or bequests, our staff are unable to accept an item until it has been through the formal acquisition process. We also welcome donations to our acquisitions fund. Contact us with information about your item or to make a donation.
Items in the Collection are available to institutions for lending and for public research purposes. Contact us for specific information about an item in the collection.

The Maritime Museum closed in 1997 and the Museum of Wellington City & Sea opened in 1999 to tell the stories of all Wellington's history, including its maritime, social and cultural stories.
When jobs arise at the Museum we list them on the Museums Aotearoa website with other museum vacancies.

The Museum of Wellington City & Sea offers themed birthday parties with fair trade organic coffee to keep the adults quiet. Contact us for details.
The Museum of Wellington City & Sea and Cable Car Museum are open every day and only close on Christmas Day. The Colonial Cottage Museum is open every weekend, and is open every day throughout January.
Wedding photos may be taken at one of the museums by prior arrangement. A fee may also be charged.
General admission is free for Museum of Wellington City & Sea, Cable Car Museum, and the garden at Colonial Cottage Museum. There is a fee for entry and tour of the Colonial Cottage Museum. Groups are welcome at all these museums, however booking is essential and charges apply.
