The Cable Car Museum is visited by over 230,000 people each year. However, its popularity is taking its toll on the experience as the facility struggles to accommodate the increasing number of visitors, as well as raising health and safety concerns.
To address this issue Museums Wellington is undertaking a two stage development of the Cable Car Museum Winding House which will create additional space and allow for hosts to greet visitors and tell them about this great Wellington attraction.
Stage One: Removal of the Trailer.
This took place in late August. While off-site, Museums Wellington will undertake a conservation assessment and any refurbishment as required.
Stage Two: Repositioning of the Grip Car.
Due to take place between May and July 2012. Museums Wellington is committed to reinstating the Trailer in the context of further developments at the Cable Car Museum and the Cable Car Precinct.
Please note that during this time Grip Car 1 is still on display at the Museum.

The Trailer is transported to the Collections Store
